Torches attract Snakes, so dequip it unless you're trying to lure it to another predator.
If your torch goes off, you have to wait until Scout throws it away before equipping a new one.
If you remove it before it goes off, you'll get an infinite torch. It does not illuminate, but scares wolves and boars off, and attracts snakes. It is also water-proof.
